Our Mission

The Gospel Worship Experience Scholarship Program Inc. (GWESP) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, now in our 6th year of providing scholarships to our youth.  The GWESP has provided 84 scholarships over the past seven years throughout Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, Washington D.C, California and Arizona.  We also provide books, lab fees, dorm fees and any other assistance that a college student may need while attending school.  The GWESP has to date provided over $160,380.00 in scholarships and donations.  We are here for our children so that they can have an easier time through college.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a true blessing to students by allowing God to direct our path with an unmatched scholarship program.  We are in our 7th year hosting the Gospel Worship Experience Scholarship Program.  During our last scholarship program fifteen (15) scholarships were given to deserving students headed to college totaling $32,500.00.  Each essay participant walked away with something, there were no losers. Each year we desire to grow exponentially in order to be a blessing to more of God’s children.

From Our Founder:

It has been a true blessing being able to allow God to direct our path with a scholarship program. In 2024 the Gospel Worship Experience Scholarship Program wil be hosting its 8th year.  During our last scholarship program we were able to give fifteen (15) scholarships to deserving students headed to college totaling $32,500.00. Each essay participant walked away with something, there were no losers.  This year is going to be a blessing to more of God’s children.

Our Team

  • Founder

    Deacon Kenneth Lewis Lee is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He joined the U.S. Marines at the age of 18 and retired after serving 22 years. Deacon Kenneth Lee is married to Deaconess Joyce Lee and has one daughter, Kenisha Latrice Lee and a grandson, Furman Christopher Hendricks Jr.

    In April 1997, Deacon Lee became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon in 2013, under the leadership of Pastor Alfred Jones Jr. Deacon Kenneth Lee has created a corporate prayer line where others can express and share their experiences through worship. Deacon Lee's compassion for helping others is shown through his love of God.

    Deacon Lee is a community leader who has sponsored and donated to various organizations such as the Diabetes Walk, Kids Closet, Homeless Shelters and his Care-Package Ministry. Additionally, Deacon Kenneth Lee continues to contribute and provide service projects abroad, including funding for Opera studies in Italy, and a youth center in Freeport Bahamas.

    Deacon Lee has a Bachelor and Master degree in Business Administration. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Averett University, where he teaches several business courses. Deacon Lee is employed at the Department of Homeland Security.

Joyce was born to Horace, and Earline McGhee in Long Beach, CA. She is the youngest of eight siblings: six girls and two boys. After leaving California over 30 years ago, she currently resides in Fredericksburg, VA with her husband Deacon Kenneth Lee, retired Marine, and business owner. The two have been married for 34 years.

Joyce graduated from Strayer University, with an Associate and Bachelor’s degree in business administration. After working for the Government for 18 years, she now works as a Government contractor on assignment for the Department of Interior, as a Contract Specialist, Team Lead over the Government contractors.

Joyce is a devoted member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Triangle, VA under the Leadership of Dr. Alfred Jones Jr., Pastor, and First Lady Goldie Jones. Joyce became a member of Mt. Zion in 1997.  Pastor Jones appointed Joyce as a Deaconess in 2013. She felt it was an honor to be appointed to the Deaconess Ministry, this allows her to help those in need, visit the sick and shut in, and guide women to pursue a committed relationship with the Lord. She was elected the Deaconess Ministry President in 2017.

Through her passion for “helping those in need” Joyce has given back to the community while holding the position of Illustrious Commandress of Mutim Court #224, a women’s charitable organization under the (A.E.A.O.N.M.S of North and South America and It’s Jurisdiction, Inc). Under her leadership, community service and charitable activities were increased while she held the position. Likewise, she holds the position COO for the GWESP a non-profit organization providing scholarships, and financial assistance to graduating high school seniors attending college.

Joyce’s purpose, mission, passion, and goal in life are to live in such away that pleases our Heavenly Father, and meet him in Heaven someday. Her favorite scripture is Deuteronomy 28: 1-14 Blessings for Obedience.
